Alfred Tom Hlavenka

Alfred Thomas "Sonny" Hlavenka, age 91, of West, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, March 26, 2013 at West Rest Haven in West. A Rosary will be recited and Funeral Services held 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Hlavenka was born September 7, 1921 in West, the son of Tom John and Frances Otilie (Hutyra) Hlavenka. He attended St. Mary's School. Sonny served his country with the United Stated Army during World War II with the 744th Tank Battalion. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a life member of the West Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alvin Hlavenka; and a sister, Lillian Kudelka. Survivors include a brother, Richard Hlavenka and wife Annie of West; a special friend, Rosalee Walla; nieces, Sharon Wilson and husband Rory, Cyndi Lair and husband Rob, Suzanne Ferrero and husband Larry; nephews, Kenneth Kudelka and wife Sandy, Tommy Hlavenka and wife Connie and James Kudelka and wife Judy; and many great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Kenneth Kudelka, James Kudelka, Rob Lair, Larry Ferrero, Rory Wilson Jon Hlavenka and Tommy Hlavenka. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the charity of your choice.
