Alfred M. Marak

Alfred M. Marak, age 89 of West, passed away late Thursday evening, May 3, 2007 in West. A rosary was recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Marak was born February 24, 1918 in West, the son of Frank J. and Agnes (Gerik) Marak. He attended St. Mary's School before going to work on the family farm. On October 7, 1940 he was united in marriage to Lillie B. Sulak in West. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2003. Alfred worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for over 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the Catholic Workman, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305, K.J.T. Society No. 31, and the R.V.O.S. lodge where he served as president for many years. Alfred will be remembered for his love for his family, especially his special love for his wife, Lillie. He was a great handyman, taroky player, gardener, and loved listening to Czech music. He enjoyed being outdoors and repairing things. His devotion to God and, again, to his family were quite special. He is also preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur Marak, Harry Marak, Frankie Marak, and Stanley Marak; and three sisters, Edith Sulak, Molly Vanzura, and Henrietta Snokhous. Survivors include a son, Sonny Marak and wife Debbie of Rockwall; three daughters, Virginia Zatopek and husband Royce and Janice Marak, all of West, and Carol Marak of Austin; two brothers, Bob Marak of West and Raymond Marak of Ennis; three sisters, Evelyn Vrbas, Helen Klish, and Rose Kubacak, all of West; four grandchildren, Royce Zatopek and wife Stacy, Christi Mishler and husband Jeremy, Julie Teinert and husband Jay, and Trey Marak; three great grandchildren, Jordan Zatopek, Madelaine Mishler, and Jake Mishler. Pallbearers were Trey Marak, Royce Zatopek Jr., Jeremy Mishler, Jay Teinert, Wayne Sulak, Harry Lee Marak, Dennis Sulak and Rick Vrbas. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center, St. Mary's School Endowment Fund, or to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
