Alfred "Fritz" Nemecek, age 100, of Austin, passed away late Sunday morning, May 24, 2015 in Austin. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Fritz was born November 3, 1914 in West, the son of Rudolph and Ludmila (Smajstrla) Nemecek. He attended schools in West and was a 1931 graduate of West High School. On February 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Virginia Moucka in West. Virginia preceded him in death on November 6, 2010. Fritz served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was the manager of the Zarsky Lumber Company in McAllen for 40 years until he retired in 1981. Fritz was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Austin. He was also a member of SPJST Lodge No. 54 in West and Our Lady of Sorrows Men's Club in McAllen. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and barbecuing. Fritz is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph H. "Pete" Nemecek; sisters, Mamie Archer Urbanovksy, Rudie Grimm, Georgia Cocek and Hattie Piehl. Survivors include a son, Fred Nemecek and wife Melissa of Pflugerville; five daughters, Dianne Conner and husband Phillip of Winnsboro, Freda Thomas of Slidell, LA, Rosemary Roseland and husband Joe of Mission, Karen Nemecek and husband Lane Ply of Elfin Cove, AK and Nancy Dennis and husband Tim of Austin; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in West.
