Albina A. Matusek, age 91, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, January 7, 2023 at West Rest Haven in West.
A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday January 13, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Albina was born May 25, 1931 in Abbott, the daughter of Anton and Albina (Marek) Kral. She attended the old Denton Hill school and schools in West and Abbott. On October 3, 1950 she was united in marriage to Ben Matusek in West. Ben preceded her in death on April 30, 2021. Albina was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of SPJST Lodge 54 and Catholic Daughters of America Court #829. Albina was very proud of knowing her grandparents came from the Czech Republic and she only knew the Czech language until learning English at age 6 in school. After growing up picking cotton as a child, she was determined that her daughters got an education to support themselves independently if needed. Her life was a testament of the bridge that connected the ways of the old country to the new country. She worked for Lorch Manufacturing and the West Sewing Room for many years. Albina enjoyed fishing, dancing, listening to Czech music, cooking, sewing, and gardening. She loved being with family. She and Ben were able to travel around the world when he served with the United States Air Force to such places as Okinawa, Guam, Labrador, and Hawaii.
Albina is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sherry Cockrell; and a grandson, Shane Matusek.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Seehar of West; a sister, Christine Bishop and husband Elmer of West; her grandchildren, Tabitha Mundahl and husband Chris, Tiffany Anderson and her husband Seth, Lori Thompson and husband David, and Colton Bohannan; great grandchildren, Braxston, Chandler, Abrielle, Hadleigh, Greyson, Mason, Reagan, Jocelyn, Levi, Madeline, Jensen, Gaius, and Ian; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Chris Mundahl, Braxston Mundahl, Bill Lott, Colton Bohannan, Frank Matusek Jr., and Jeff Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Cemetery Association.
