Albert R. Matula, age 87, of Abbott, passed away early Sunday morning, February 12, 2017 at Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. A rosary will be recited and funeral services held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Paul Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Albert was born May 12, 1929 in Tours, the son of Emil and Ludmila (Grones) Matula. On August 19, 1961, he was united in marriage to Barbara Snelson in Gatesville. Barbara preceded him in death on January 16, 2001. Albert worked as a carpenter, welder and farmer. He also worked for West Auction Barn. Albert was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. He enjoyed horseback riding, gardening and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Albert is also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marna Lee White; and infant son, Edward R. Matula; brothers, Henry Matula, Robert Matula and Fred Matula; and a sister, Georgie Smetak. Survivors include his twin daughters, Sherrie Matula and fianc Clint White of Waco and Terrie Williams and husband Ronnie of Morgan; sons, George Childress and wife Lyn and Bill Burk and wife Debra; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 1 on the way; a favorite niece, Evelyn Matula; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Danny Matula, George Childress, Aaron Childress, Bill Burk, James Burk, Chris Williams, Lance Krakowian, Joshua Hernandez, Dawson Hernandez, Gary Redden, Shawn Cockrell and Bruce Theile. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
