Albert Frank "Cupie" Miller, age 100, of Leroy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 2024 at his home with his family lovingly around him.
A rosary will be recited 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2024 at St. Martin's Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen Nesrsta and Rev. Will Straten as celebrants, assisted by Deacon Robin Waters. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard.
Albert was born March 24, 1923 in Leroy, the son of Louis "Louie" and Susie (Englut) Miller. He attended school in Axtell, Chalk Bluff, and he graduated in 1941 from Mount Calm High School. He studied mechanical engineering at Southwest State College in San Marcos and went to work in Civil Service for the United States Navy in Corpus Christi. He then drafted into the U.S. Army serving in World War II, located on a barge on a river near Yokohama, Japan. Albert also served in the U.S. Air Force and Navy National Guard Reserve.
After returning to Corpus Christi, he married Mary Rejcek (of Abbott) on September 11, 1948. Albert and Mary then moved to San Antonio and Fort Hood. Albert worked Civil Service with the Army at Fort Hood as a first class aircraft mechanic for 33 years before retiring and moving closer to home. He and Mary then resided in Abbott before making the move to his home place in Leroy in 1979. Albert then worked at Nickerson Farms in Abbott, Bolton Chevrolet, West Gas Service, Big Czech Oil, and Ashbrook and Company. He loved meeting and visiting with people. Albert says his top prize though was landing the love of his life, Mary. Albert and Mary were married for 69 years before Mary passed away at the age 90. Albert also enjoyed gambling, but there was nothing left to chance when it came to talking about his love of life and family. Locals around Leroy and West fondly know Albert as Cupie, but he would answer to several other names: Fred, Spark Plug, Squeaky, and affectionately by his family as PaPa.
He was baptized as a child in the Methodist church, but after marrying a Catholic, he assisted Mary in raising all seven of their children as Catholics, practicing the Catholic faith along with them. Five years ago, Albert was baptized at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Miller and Kirby Alexander; sisters, Vera Gauer and Waunida Miller; son-in-law, Howard Rotramel; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Miller.
Survivors include his children, Judy Rotramel of West, Joan Davila and husband Noe of Aquilla, Jane Barr and husband Denny of Killeen, June Danker and husband Ken of Laguna Park, Janice Otto and husband David of Leroy, James Miller and Kelly Nors of West, and John Miller and Vala Allen of West; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Randee Rotramel, David Davila, Dennis Davila, Brian Renegar, Adam Danker, Travis Otto, Coy Miller and Jonathan Borger.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's Catholic Church or St. Martin Cemetery Association.
