Agnes Johnson

December 21, 1931 — October 28, 2024

Agnes (Soukup) Johnson, age 92, of West, passed away Monday morning, October 28, 2024 at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco.

A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday November 4, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West.

Agnes lived a full and vibrant life, deeply rooted in her family, faith, and community. Born in 1931 in West, the daughter of Anton and Agnes (Bezdek) Soukup, she grew up with a love for her Czech heritage and was a dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, as well as KJZT St. Ludmila #11. On December 29, 1952 she was united in marriage to Cecil Johnson in West. Cecil preceded her in death on April 7, 2000. Known for her lively personality and fashion sense, Agnes was truly a "fashionista," bringing sparkle and fun into any room she entered. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was a 1949 graduate of West High School. Her career took her all the way from her younger years at Old Corner Drug in West working for Wendel Montgomery, to Southwestern Bell Telephone and AT&T in Ft. Worth, until her retirement in 1992.  After her beloved husband passed away, she returned back to West living on the same property she grew up on. Agnes had a strong work ethic and a love for helping others. In addition to her career, she loved to spend time with family, often hosting gatherings where her love of dancing, decorating, and witty sense of humor made her the life of the party. Agnes was also known for her creative talents-she was passionate about painting, arts and crafts, and was an avid fan of garage and estate sales, where she likely found many treasures to share with her loved ones. Her appreciation for Czech music kept her connected to her roots, and she remained deeply devoted to her family and friends throughout her life.

Agnes is also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Tony Soukup; a daughter, Patricia Tigner; and a son-in-law, David Crockett, PhD.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen Crockett of West, C. C. and husband Paul Grant of Houston, Andrew Johnson, M.D. of Frederick, Maryland, and LuCinda and husband Mark Medlenka of North Richland Hills; son-in-law, Tom Tigner, Jr. of Granbury; grandchildren, Katelyn  Tigner, Esq. and husband LT Ryan Vandrey, USN, Alyssa Tigner M.D., Thomas Tigner III, PhD, Marissa Medlenka, and Audrey Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
