Adolph Volcik, age 85, of West, passed away early Friday morning, December 31, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the West Brethren Church, with Rev. Curtis Holland and Rev. Lawrence Junek officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park near Waco, conducted by West V.F.W. Post No.4819. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Volcik was born January 22, 1919 in Fayette County, the son of Frank and Agnes (Kovar) Volcik. At the age of 10, the family moved to West. He attended schools in the Granger, Aquilla, Ross, and Tours areas. He joined the 3 C Camp and worked in Pine, Arizona building roads and also worked as a firefighter. He married Willie Mae Kocian on October 14, 1940 in West. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1995. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II where he received the Bronze Star. He served in the Pacific Theatre, Australia, New Guinea, and the West Indies. Shortly after his return, he and his brother Edwin opened the Friendship Cafe in West and operated it until December of 1980. Adolph also worked for General Tire and Rubber Company, Shadowland, The Chicken House, and Mynar's Bar. He was a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819; American Legion Post No. 478; and the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 215 in Whitney. He also was a very faithful member of the West Brethren Church. Adolph enjoyed visiting with family and friends and was well liked and respected by all that knew him. Three brothers, Edwin Volcik, Raymond Volcik, and Albert Volcik, also precede him in death. Survivors include a son, Larry Volcik and his wife Dody of Salado; a daughter, Jaydean Willis and her husband Wilburn of Waco; a sister, Angeline Veach and her husband Joe of Waco; two sisters-in-law, Polly Volcik and JoDell Volcik, both of West; five grandchildren, Terry Barton and his wife Jill, Darryl Barton, Ryan Volcik and his wife Kristin, Melissa Willis, and Steve Willis; three great-grandchildren, Kristopher Barton, Kathleen Barton, and Austin Bolfing; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Pallbearers are Terry Barton, Darryl Barton, Ryan Volcik, Harry Volcik, Erwin Janek, John Holecek, Daniel Deiterman and Floyd D. Wolf. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to West Brethren Church.
