Leo R. Popp, age 88, of Waco, passed away late Tuesday evening, January 18, 2022 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 9:00 a.m. until service time Monday, at the church. Leo was born November 30, 1933 in Hillje, Texas (near El Campo) the son of Rudolph and Frances (Pauler) Popp. He attended school near Hillje. On June 15, 1955 he was united in marriage to Marie "Billie" Etlinger in Ganado. Leo was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. He was a member of St. Louis Social Ministry and worked for CP&L Company, Waco Communications and McDowell Research. Leo enjoyed telling jokes, deer hunting, playing dominoes, traveling, and spending time at the Bay House. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leo is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nicholas James Van Pelt; and a sister, Lorene Kunz. Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Marie "Billie" Popp of Waco; children, Mark Popp and his wife Debbie of Richmond, Bruce Popp and his wife Ann of Waco, Marsha Green and her husband Tommy of West, Yvonne Reddell and her husband Jeff of West, and Craig Popp and his wife Nancy of Sugar Land; his grandchildren, Amanda Popp, Mark Popp Jr. and his wife Debra, Autumn Popp, Bruce Alan Popp Jr., Tanner Popp, Marie Valenta and her husband Devin, Christine Van Pelt and her fiance Eric Medina, Janelle Green, Ryan Reddell, Katy Reddell, Elizabeth Popp, and Jonathan Popp; great grandchildren, Madison, Blake, and Lily; sisters, Evelyn Wendel and Geraldine Stavinoha and her husband Albert; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Mark Popp Jr., Bruce Alan Popp Jr., Tanner Popp, Ryan Reddell, Jonathan Popp, Blake George, Clarence Kunz, David Kunz, and Gary Wendel. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Tusa, Ken Cates, Mike Goldsmith, Tim Condon, Chris Walker, Lawrence Knebel, Terry Reddell, Bill Goerig and Nicholas Van Pelt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Louis Catholic School or Reicher High School.
