Joseph A. Pavlicek

Joseph A. Pavlicek, age 83, of West, passed away late Friday evening, April 9, 2010 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Joseph was born on December 13, 1926 in Tours, the son of Joseph and Annie (Marek) Pavlicek. He attended school in Tours and served his country in the United States Army. On August 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Stella Berger in Tours. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2005. Joseph farmed and worked for General Tire and Rubber Company for over 30 years before retiring in 1986. He enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, listening to Czech music, watching drag racing and the Texas Rangers, gardening, and cooking. Joseph was also a very friendly person and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. He was also a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #66, R.V.O.S., and Catholic Life. His parents; a son, Gregory Pavlicek; five brothers, Adolph Pavlicek, Frank Pavlicek, James Pavlicek Sr., Albin Pavlicek and Leo Pavlicek; and three sisters, Bessie Pustejovsky, Vlasta Svoboda, and Adele Thun; also preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Sherrie Herbelin and husband Jeff of Lorena; a brother, Edward Pavlicek of San Antonio; a sister, Frances Ender of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Laura Pavlicek, Hunter Herbelin and Braedon Herbelin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Justin Neill, Bill Warren, Jr., Jimmy Pavlicek, Michael Berger, Matt Pavlicek, and Emil Pustejovsky Jr. Honorary pallbearers are his friends from Exxon and his domino buddies. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours.
