Johnnie Soukup

November 26, 1934 — December 24, 2022

Johnnie Alois Soukup, age 88, of Elm Mott, passed away early Saturday morning, December 24, 2022 at Providence Hospital in Waco.


A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.


Johnnie was born November 26, 1934 in West, the son of Frank and Louise (Jaska) Soukup. He attended schools in Tokio and West. He served his country with the United States Army. On November 23, 1957 he was united in marriage to Christine Gerik in West. Christine preceded him in death on February 28, 1988. He then married Bernice Uptmore Cepak on June 23, 2001 in West. Johnnie was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #54 and the RVOS Lodge #48. He was a very talented welder for Tymco Industries in Waco for many years before retiring in 2018. Johnnie enjoyed farming, taking care of his cattle, talented welder, wood working, dancing, and listening to Czech music.


Johnnie is also preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Charlene Soukup; a grandson, Joshua Machovsky; brothers, Joe Soukup and Frank Soukup; and sisters, Mary Wachsmann and Annie Skerik.


Survivors include his beloved wife of 21 years, Bernice Cepak Soukup of Elm Mott; his children, Valencia Machovsky and husband James of Forney, Bernadene "Bernie" Giglione of McKinney, and Ernest J. "Ernie" Soukup and wife Tammy of West; grandchildren, Jason Machovsky and wife Mary and Nicole Giglione; great grandchildren, Justin, Geneva, Johnnie, and Giuliana Machovsky; step-children, Tim Cepak and wife Torri, Mark Cepak and wife Sandy, Phyllis Cepak, Pam Khoury, Penny Spellman and husband John, and Patricia Ford and husband Brian; and many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are Henry Soukup, Jody Soukup, Bobby Skerik, Frank Skerik, Jason Machovsky, James Soukup.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
