James "Coach" Schuetz, age 72, of Bay City, formerly of West, passed away early Saturday morning, April 27, 2019 in Houston. Indoor Graveside Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Jeff Richter officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. James was born November 1, 1946 in Waco, the son of the late Theodore and Bertha (Banik) Schuetz. He was raised in West and was a 1965 graduate of West High School. Following graduation, he went on to attend the University of Corpus Christi where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1969 and later attended Baylor University. He taught and coached for several Independent School Districts in the Axtell, West, Waco, Sweeney, Rogers, Moody, Hillsboro, Leon, Hubbard, Penelope, and Palacios areas for over 36 years until his retirement in 2011. James loved coaching basketball and volleyball, and teaching History, Government, and Drivers Ed. He was a member of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, Texas Association of High School Coaches, and Texas Association of Girls Coaching. James was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, dancing and listening to polka music. Survivors include his brother, Alfred Schuetz and wife Janet of Waco; a sister, Nancy Meier and husband Otis of Westphalia; three nieces, Kerri Meier, Sherry Kosel and husband Brian, and Jennifer Pitts and husband Kevin; two nephews, Barry Meier and Jason Schuetz and wife Kristy; great-nephews, Logan, Jaxson, and Brandon; great-nieces, Jordan, Makenzie, and Katie; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Gerald Cemetery.
