Gracie Soukup, age 90, of Hewitt, passed away Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023 at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.
A rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. John Boiko as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West.
Gracie was born September 21, 1932 in Ross, the daughter of Charles and Annie (Kostecka) Soukup. She was a graduate of LaVega High School and attended McLennan Community College. Gracie worked for General Dynamics in Waco for many years, Behrens Drug in Waco, and also volunteered her time delivering Senior News and the Classified Ads to several businesses in the area. She participated in a bowling league in Waco and was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan. Gracie enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and loved her dogs Lila, Teddy, Suzie and Butchie. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waco and SPJST Lodge #66 Geneva Hall.
Gracie is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Benjamin Soukup; a sister, Rudie Nowlin; a sister-in-law, Doris Soukup, and great nephews, Curtis Gunter and Leslie Brown.
Survivors include her nieces, Rhonda Dunahoo and James Dunahoo, Donna Ogle and husband David, Jennifer Nowlin Haralson, and Bobbie Brown; great niece, Krystin Peaslee and husband Jamy; great nephews, Nicholas Dunahoo and wife Rena, and Scott Ogle and wife Becky; great great nephew, Korbyn Peaslee; great great nieces, Addison Dunahoo, Emery Dunahoo, and Allison Ogle and fiance Braden South; and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Nicholas Dunahoo, James Dunahoo, Ron Kaska, and Buddy Kaska. Honorary pallbearers are Jamy Peaslee, Korbyn Peaslee, David Ogle and Scott Ogle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
