Clara E. Thun, age 94 of Elk passed away Thursday morning, May 11, 2006 in a Waco nursing home. Rosary & Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2006 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk, Texas with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetry in Elk. Visitation will be held 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 13th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk. Mrs. Thun was born October 15, 1911 on the Smith ranch in Limestone County to Joe Frank and Emily Dusek Adamek. At the age of six she moved with her family to the Elk Community. On October 15, 1930, she married Willie Thun at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They were the first couple to marry in the newly built church at that time. Mr. Thus preceded her in death on August 7, 1982. She was also preceded in death by two sons Wheldon and Clarence Thun and a great granddaughter, Abby Stecher and six sisters and two brothers. She worked for the Axtell School District for twenty two years before retiring. Clara was affectionately known as "Granny," to the children who knew her and to those that loved her very much. She is survived by four sons, Bill and Joann Thun of Elk, Kenneth and Izetta Thun of Waco, Mike and June Thun of South Carolina, and Tom and Sheila Thun of Elk; two daughters, Patsy Thun of Elk, and Linda and Preston Dennis of Axtell, nineteen grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Olga Adamek, numerous nieces and nephews and all of her friends. Active Pallbearers will be Gary Baker, Ricky Stecher, Jeff Harriman, Jason Busby, Kevin Rosenkranz and Joe Polansky. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
