Alvin Pavlas

Alvin F. Pavlas, age 77, of West, passed away Tuesday evening February 7, 2006 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, by Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek, Rev. Steven Nesrsta and Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Pavlas was born on March 28, 1928 near West, the son of Albin and Sophie (Mechell) Pavlas. He attended Alligator School. On October 11, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary Kaska in West. He worked as a farmer for most of his life. He also worked for Fleetwood Mobile Homes, drove a motorgrader for McLennan County and was a truck driver for the City of West until his retirement in 1992. Alvin loved watching his grandchildren play baseball and listening to Polka music. His hobbies were spending time outdoors working in his garden, tending to his chickens and doing woodwork. He was a member of K.J.T. No. 31, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6, R.V.O.S., and the Czech Heritage Society. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Pavlas of West; one son, Danny Pavlas and wife Rhonda of West; two daughters, Ann Walls and Betty Orler and husband Philip, all of West; aunts, Ruth Krizan and Georgie Skerik, of West; uncle, Victor Pavlas Sr. of West; eight grandchildren, Amber Moore, Ashley Walls, Jared Orler, Josh Orler, Jake Orler, Justin Orler, Kalyn Pavlas & Ethan Pavlas; two great-grandchildren, Christina Stevenson and Erika Wachsmann; his dog, JD; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are George Kaska, Jr., Richard Kaska, Dr. B. D. Pierce, Albert Kaska, Johnnie Krizan, Robert Schiemenz, Edward Chudej and Charlie Pavlas. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to West E.M.S. or the West Senior Citizens Program.
